4 Ways in Which Fine Foods Can Lift Our Spirits

They say that ‘you are what you eat’ and while that saying shouldn’t be taken too literally, there is, in actual fact, a lot of truth to it. If you eat a diet rich in cheap, processed foods packed full of artificial ingredients, chemicals, and preservatives, not only will this do your body no good at all it will also affect your mental health as well. Junk food is referred to as junk food because it makes us feel like junk, and it contains very few nutrients or ingredients that the body actually needs.

On the opposite side of the coin, if you eat right, purchase fine foods, and use the finest quality ingredients to nourish your mind, body, and soul, not only will you become healthier, but you’ll also feel happier as well.

Food is a universal language. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, how old your are, your gender, what you do, or anything else, we all have to eat and the vast majority of us get great pleasure from eating fine foods.

But why is this? Why do we feel awful when we eat junk, yet feel so fantastic when we nourish our bodies with fine foods? Well, let’s take a look, shall we?

Fine food brings people together

Let’s face it, when it comes down to virtually any social event, food nearly always plays an important role.

Whether it’s celebrating a birthday, an engagement, a promotion at work, or simply meeting up with friends and sitting down at a dinner party, food is nearly always the centrepiece.

Fine food, which not only tastes fantastic, but is also loaded full of nutrients, is great for getting people together, sitting them down at a table, and allowing them to socialize, catch up, have fun, and enjoy each other’s company, along with the food of course.

The simple fact of the matter is that, if you were sitting down for a meal made from cheap and nasty ingredients which tasted foul and offered virtually no nutritional value, this would put a dampener on the evening and could possibly even make people reluctant to do it again.

Fine foods we enjoy can trigger pleasure responses

Another way in which fine food can lift our spirits and make us feel happier all comes down to our brains.

You see, when we consume food which is not only nutritious, but also tasty and delicious as well, this triggers pleasure responses in the brain that cause us to feel happy, relaxed, and content.

When we taste something that we find delicious, our brains secrete happy chemicals known as endorphins which are naturally occurring opioids. These natural, feel-good chemicals cause us to feel mildly euphoric and happy when we eat, thereby putting us in a much better mood.

Fine foods are loaded full of flavour and natural goodness, making for incredibly tasty and delicious meals. When we consume them, our brains secrete more endorphins which put us in a much better, much happier mood and make us feel great!

Fine food can be comforting

We all have stressful days, and we all have times when life gets on top of us, causing us to feel unhappy, stressed, and to crave tasty and delicious food.

On days when we’re feeling stressed, unhappy, and just downright glum, tucking into our favourite meals can be comforting and can offer us warmth and relaxation. This again, is mainly down to endorphins released via the brain.

Say for example, it’s a cold, grey, winter’s day and you just want to relax on the couch in your sweats while watching your favourite series on the TV, a bowl of delicious and hearty stew and dumplings made from the best ingredients out there will help warm your soul, lift your spirits, and leave you feeling happy, relaxed, and content in life. Think of it like a great big warm hug in a bowl.

Fine food is nutritious

Finally, the last way in which eating fine food can lift your spirits all comes down to the nutritional value of the food you consume.

Good quality food made from natural ingredients is wholesome and is loaded full of natural goodness including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and dietary fibre.

Eating a diet rich in natural goodness will make you feel better because you’ll be healthier and nourished from within, which in turn will make you feel good.
